European standards for protective gloves

Gloves, as protective equipment, are the basic accessory for determining some works. Regardless of the work environment, the wearing of protective equipment is either regulated by law or recommended to reduce the risk of injury to mechanical hazards or contamination. A safety glove is designed to protect you from hazards including cuts, chemical burns, abrasion, crushing, or contact with biological hazards. Safety glove is really just another name for work glove. But choosing the right style of gloves is what really matters.
·  EN12447 - REQUIREMENTS FOR WELDING GLOVES
Protective gloves for welders must comply with the requirements of EN 388 and EN 407. In addition, other standards apply. A distinction is made between welding gloves in two versions:
·  Type A - heavy welding work (MIG / MAG)
·  Type B - Welding work with high finger mobility (TIG / electric)

  • ·  EN511 – PROTECTION AGAINST COLD
This standard applies to gloves that provide protection against convection and cold contact down to -50 ° C. The icon is accompanied by 3 performance levels.

  • ·  EN381 – 7 – PROTECTION AGAINST CHAINSAW HAZARDS
EN 381 defines the requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) for users of portable chain saws. Part 7 of this standard deals with protective gloves.
Cut protection classes

  • EN374-1 – ·  PROTECTION AGAINST CHEMICALS

  • EN 374-5 – ·  PROTECTION AGAINST MICRO-ORGANISMS

  • FOOD LABELING
Gloves bearing this international mark can be used for handling food. Regulation (EU) 1935/2004 sets out the requirements for materials
  • EN 420 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROTECTIVE GLOVES

EN 420 defines, among other things, the wearing comfort, harmlessness, practicality, labeling requirements and dimensions of protective gloves.

  • EN388 - REQUIREMENTS AGAINST MECHANICAL HAZARDS

The EN 388 standard describes test procedures for determining the performance levels of certain mechanical risks. The icon is marked with five or six level values.

Level X can be used from A to F and means "Not tested" or "Not applicable" - e.g. 413X4X

  • ·  EN407 – PROTECTION AGAINST THERMAL HAZARDS (excessive heat)
This standard specifies the thermal performance of gloves to protect against heat and fire hazards. The icon is accompanied by six levels of performance
